Oleg Alekseev and Isaak Frumin, facilitators of the Skolkovo Open University Club

Last weekend Tomsk Consortium of Scientific and Educational Institutes was meeting with representatives of Skolkovo Foundation. They discussed the arrangement of selection of Tomsk students to Skolkovo Open University. Representatives of Siberian State Medical University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics and Tomsk State University took part in the meeting held by Isaak Frumin, Scientific Advisor of Vice President for Education and Research of Skolkovo Foundation, and Andrei Egorov, Executive Director of Skolkovo Open University.

According to Isaak Frumin, Skolkovo Open University (SOU) arose as an answer to the question: where shall people with required competence come to Skolkovo Innovation Centre from? SOU will work along with Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and partner programs of universities. “SOU does not establish branches but works primarily as a network project aimed at the selection of talents and distribution of advance scientific and technological knowledge. It is spreading out. Apart from Moscow SOU is functioning in Tomsk and St. Petersburg,” said Isaak Frumin.

On December 22, from 5:00 p.m till 7:00 p.m Andrei Egorov, Executive Director, and students of   Skolkovo Open University will be holding a presentation of Skolkovo Open University in A.S. Pushkin Tomsk Regional Library.

“New ideas appear as a result of SOU educational programs. We can use them as a basis for start-ups, for competence development to work in R&D-departments of companies and apply to Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology to study master and post graduate programs,” said Andrei Egorov about future results of SOU work.

Skolkovo Open University began working in Tomsk in May 2011 when John and Doris Naisbitt delivered their lecture on “New World View”, Peter Schedrovitsky gave lecture “Agenda of 2010’s: preliminary assessment” and SOU Club was held. Another lecture was given in June. That was a lecture of Alessandro Astolfi, a world leading expert in the area of robotic engineering.

In the nearest time selective competition will start in Tomsk, students from all Tomsk and Seversk universities will be able to take part therein. Training course will start in February 2012.  Now the site for SOU in Tomsk is being selected. According to the practice of SOU in Moscow, classes start there in the evening when students finish their studies in their universities.

Participants of the meeting also discussed SOU education program content. “The content of the education programs of Skolkovo Open University in Tomsk will include priority areas of the project “INO Tomsk 2020” along with the five priority areas of technological development and modernization of Russian economy. A special emphasis shall be probably put on the areas of the technological platform “Medicine of the Future,” said Liana Kobzeva, tutor of Skolkovo Open University in Tomsk.
