The status of Federal Educational and R&D Center will legally secure those processes that are really being carried out here to Tomsk scientific and educational complex.

First of all, it is a close integration of Tomsk universities, academic institutes and innovative sector of economy. This process is very important since significant scientific and technological breakthroughs happen today only at the interface of various disciplines. If we take, for instance, modern high-tech medicine it can successfully develop only in cooperation with exact and engineering sciences – physics, chemistry, information technologies and so on.

Life itself promotes integration and not only to scientific schools. The “triple helix” model plays a key role in the innovative development today. It provides for a close cooperation between universities, authorities and business. A good example thereof is a new generation bandage based on nanotechnologies produced in Tomsk. This is a joint project of Siberian State Medical University and Research and Development Institute of Pharmacology of RAMS supported by local authorities and large investor.

It is the integration of universities, science, innovative sector, business and authorities that is the “core” of the project “INO Tomsk’ 2020”. Tomsk community has naturally come to this model realizing that no one will succeed alone.

Infrastructure is a very significant component of “INO Tomsk’ 2020” project. First of all, it includes construction of a modern campus, living quarter, new main roads, and social objects.    It is primarily aimed at the provision of staff for the project. For the most talented graduates to stay in Tomsk and turn our region into a real intelligence territory which will serve as an innovation light-house for Russian regions.

…I am sure if we do not pay special attention to the development of scientific-educational-innovative complex Tomsk may die as a city. Our city-forming structures are not industrial enterprises or extracting companies but universities and research institutes.
